Community Impact & Leadership

I strongly believe in humanity and in giving back to the community whenever possible. Titles and roles fade over time, but the impact of meaningful actions endures.

• Founding VaccinateAustin.org - Helping elderly getting vaccinated | March 2021

Vaccinate Austin community vaccination effort

One of the contributions I am most proud of - founding VaccinateAustin.org during the COVID-19 pandemic to help elderly and vulnerable populations access vaccines in early March 2021—when systems were fragmented and access was deeply inequitable.

What began as a grassroots effort rapidly scaled into a full operational program supporting an entire hospital system contracted to administer vaccines across the Austin area. At a time when governments, hospitals, and private companies were struggling to coordinate and reach the right people quickly, I designed and implemented an end-to-end vaccination workflow, including:

  • Simple patient registration
  • Eligibility tracking and prioritization
  • Appointment scheduling and automated reminders
  • Two-dose planning and follow-up
  • Messaging, case management, and case closure

The guiding principle was simplicity - making the process effortless for elderly individuals who were overwhelmed by multiple portals and complex web navigation.

To achieve this, we partnered with Spruce, a healthcare chat platform, enabling patients to simply send a text message to begin the process. From there, our volunteer team handled everything behind the scenes. We used JotForm, Excel sheet and various BI tools used by hospital system.

Impact:

  • 50,000+ people successfully vaccinated
  • 60+ volunteers recruited, trained, and coordinated
  • Operations ran 8–10 hours nightly in addition to my full-time job for 90 days
  • Hospital, volunteer, and technology systems integrated under extreme time pressure

This effort remains the most meaningful achievement of my life, not because of scale alone, but because it delivered help when it was urgently needed, to people who needed it most.

• Mentor Coder Dojo - teaching kids computer basics | 2008-2015

Another area that is close to my heart is education—specifically making high-quality learning and information accessible to children at the lowest possible cost.
I was one of the founding members of CoderDojo in the Austin area, helping establish CoderDojo Round Rock as a free, volunteer-led learning community for young students.
CoderDojo Round Rock was a nonprofit, community-driven club where children ages 7–17 learn programming, web, game, and app development in an informal, collaborative, and supportive environment.
Our mission is to increase computer science literacy and spark long-term interest in STEM among youth in the Round Rock–Austin area by removing financial and access barriers to learning. `
